Want to Work from Home? Start Here.
You’ve probably seen people showing off how they are earning in dollars from their phones and even laptops, working while holding a baby or sipping tea at home, and you’re asking, “How do I start? Is it even possible for someone like me?”
Yes, it is. I want to make this as simple as possible for you, so here’s a clear path to begin.
Step 1: Accept You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out
Most women don’t start because they feel unqualified, too late, or underprepared, and in many cases, we feel we don’t have the tools or resources to make it work. But remote work doesn’t require perfection — just willingness to learn and willingness to bet on yourself. This may look different for many of us, but let’s just start by taking small steps.
Step 2: Identify What You Can Already Do
Ask yourself:
Can I write, teach, organize, sell, multitask, use Canva, or communicate well?
These are real skills companies pay for online, especially in roles such as virtual assistance, customer support, social media management, or tutoring.
Step 3: Learn One Digital Skill (Not Everything at Once)
Start with beginner-friendly skills you can learn in 2–6 weeks:
- Virtual Assistance
- Social Media Management
- Graphic Design (Canva)
- Email Marketing
- Content Writing or Online Tutoring
You don’t need expensive courses; start with YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, or IvoryLearn classes.
Step 4: Practice With Someone You Know
Help a small business, your church, your existing brand, or a friend for free or small pay. This gives you:
- Experience
- Confidence
- A portfolio to show clients
These 3 things are what clients are looking for and are willing to pay for. So go after these 3 things to position yourself well in your preferred industry.
Step 5: Create Opportunities, Don’t Wait for Them
Use platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, Remote.co, and Facebook groups to search for gigs. Let people know you’re available. A lot of us have the proclivity and tendency to shy away from searching, but usually, things are found by those who search. Pitch like a pro and secure that job.
Here are some questions I want you to answer;
- What skill can I commit to learning in the next 30 days?
- Who is the first person/business I can offer value to(for free/small stipend)?
